OUR APPROACH

Optimizing Building Health and Safety

EH Building Health is your one stop shop to create a safer and healthier workplace, tailored specifically for your employee and customer’s needs. As the building performance experts, we use a comprehensive approach to improve the air quality and health of your building.

EH Building Health optimizes air quality, safety and health by bundling multiple building measures to provide the most cost-effective ways to treat and optimize building environments.

Enhanced Ventilation & Filtration

Improving air filtration and ventilation to the highest compatible level can cost effectively improve air quality by better filtering of harmful particles in the building. Supplemental portable room air cleaners with HEPA filtering can greatly increase filtering capacities.

UV Lights

UV lights have been shown to destroy genetic material of viruses and bacteria. UV lighting has been used for years in hospitals and health centers to combat the spread of germs. Safe and proper installation of regulated UV products can provide effective cleansing of high touch surface areas.

Ionization Technology

Ionization Technology generates and introduces charged ions into HVAC air flow as part of an air purification process.  The charged ions not only deactivate bacteria and fungi but can also assist in the filtering of organic compounds, indoor pollutants and odors.

Studies demonstrate that UVC light (207–222 nm) can efficiently inactivate bacteria and virus particles without harm to exposed skin. This is because, due to its strong absorbance in biological materials, UVC light cannot penetrate even the outer (non living) layers of human skin or eye; however, because bacteria and virus particles are of micrometer or smaller dimensions, UVC can penetrate and inactivate them.

Air ionization works through the reaction of negatively and positively charged ions. The ions attach to airborne pathogens, such as viruses causing a chemical reaction on the cell membrane’s surface. This deactivates virus particles, rendering them harmless, so they can no longer spread or cause infection.

High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are most effective at removing small particles. HEPA filters have been shown to remove 99.97 percent of particles of 0.3 microns. Existing HVAC systems in most homes and commercial buildings generally don’t have filters that can filter out virus pathogens.

/01. Enhanced Ventilation & Filtration

Proper indoor air filtration, with fresh make up air supply if possible, are recommended for healthy indoor air quality.  It’s important  to ventilate with fresh air and improve interior air filtering to assure a cleaner building. Airborne transmission of pathogens, dust, and pollen can be minimized by increasing outdoor air ventilation to dilute the concentration of airborne particles or filtering air recirculating in a building. In buildings with mechanical ventilation systems, existing filters can be upgraded to MERV-13 filters with high efficiency ratings. Portable air purifiers with HEPA filtering can provide additional levels of enhanced filtration for your building.

Filtration in building systems can assist in risk mitigation but is not a solution by itself. EH Building Health provides all assistance for your air filtration needs.

/02. UV Lights

UV lighting has been used for disinfection and air quality in medical facilities for decades. UV lights can be strong enough to destroy the genetic material in viruses and bacteria. These devices are shown to reduce the incidence of many healthcare associated infections. UVC light has been used extensively for more than 40 years in disinfecting drinking water, waste water, air,  and high contact surfaces against a whole suite of pathogens. UV lighting is particularly effective at cleaning hard surfaces in high touch high traffic areas.

UV light can also damage human cells, which is why these products must be installed safely and properly, typically  when humans are out of the space, or by using motion sensor shut offs for protection. This is why UV is only one component of  a multi-pronged solution, using multiple safety and cleanliness efforts.

/03. Ionization Technology

Ionization is a process that can blanket an entire room or home, that neutralizes virus particles both in the air and on surfaces. Ionization technologies, often integrated into HVAC systems, take oxygen molecules from the air and convert them into charged atoms that then cluster microparticles, surrounding and deactivating harmful substances like airborne mold, bacteria, allergens, and virus particles. They also attach to expelled breath droplets and dust particles that can transport virus particles, enlarging them so they’re more easily caught in filters. It’s an active process that provides continuous disinfection.

Local ionizers reduce airborne pathogens and assist in the filtering of pollutants but are not equipped to destroy ALL pollutants. This is why it is necessary to supplement the ionizers with a multi-pronged solution.

/04. Safety Support

EH Building Health also provides fundamental support through comprehensive safety and cleanliness products for your building’s common and high-traffic areas.

  • Sanitation: EH Building Health can provide permanent or portable hand sanitizing stations and hand sanitizer lotions with guidelines for heightened cleaning and hygiene standards
  • Building Signage: We can provide signage to optimize safe practices of guests and tenants.  EH Building Health can help facilitating traffic patterns within your building, awareness of reduced elevator capacity and encouragement of stair use, and mask-use encouragement.
  • Safety Shields: Protect staff and visitors with clear acrylic plastic protective shields.  This allows employees at counters, registers and check in desks to see and interact with clients while providing protection from airborne illness.
